Bassetts Sweets - Old Fashioned Retro Memories Bassett's Sweets have been around since 1842, wow yes a long time, and created by a chap called George Bassett, nice guy we believe. The company is now owned by Cadbury, good or bad, they still make awesome childhood favourite sweets, such as Murray Mints, Cherry Drops and the seriously popular Hard Liquorice Sticks.
Catherine Wheels are one of those sweets that no one knows the name of when they come in to the shop. 'Do you have those liquorice wheel sweets with the little aniseed sweets from liquorice allsorts in the middle' they say. 'Yes,' we reply. 'They are called Catherine Wheels and we have some right here for you.' Or something along those lines anyway! Catherine Wheels are made from delicious Bassett's liquorice with a tasty Aniseed Spog in the middle. Very enjoyable to eat by unraveling the liquorice right until you get to the spog in the middle which come in pink, blue and orange.
They weigh approx 20g each, so you'll get around 10 Catherine Wheels per pack.
