Invented in 1903 and still made today in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire. The original producer of the traditional gummy Midget Gems, they make Poor Bens, Liquorice Gums, Wine Gums, Butterscotch Gums, Fruit Salads, and more.
They have earned brand recognition as a harder, more chewy eating gummy sweet, like a pastille type of sweet. We often are asked for the Lions brand of Wine Gums, etc, as they have a better flavour and texture, than, say Maynards.

Lion's Wine Gums are the best and tastiest wine gums. The way that they are made ensures a firmer texture and longer lasting flavour than most wine gums on the market. Of course, these sweets do not actually contain any alcohol (wine or otherwise!) but the colours of the sweet are named after it: port, sherry, champagne, burgundy, gin and claret. Wine gums also come in five distinct shapes: kidney, crown, diamond, circle and rectangle. Lion Wine Gums have kept up with the tradition of the black gum being liquorice flavoured.
